I spoke with the parent of a young girl who is a 'model student' - works hard, wants to do the right thing - came home from school last week in floods of tears, given a detention for not having a ruler, the week before she had a detention for taking 2 minutes longer than the toilet break allowed from class. focusing on the wrong things alienates learners - destroys confidence and breeds resentment. What are we doing to our young people?

All our laws are simply stated by authority and should be disobeyed as soon as they are in conflict with our moral compass. How many adults in today's world do you think agree with this statement? 0,01%?
And finally, making children "just follow the [imposed] rules" violates a whole bunch of their fundamental rights, as in the right to be heard, to participate in shaping their environment, and the right to express themselves freely, to mention but a few.
