It's capitalism at its finest. It's not just the children. We are all being forced to move faster and try to make more money just to keep up. AI is the last straw. It helps us move faster yet again, but it is taking jobs away. I know, I am a software engineer and my pay has halved yet I'm still expected to keep up with this new technology to have a chance of competing.
We need to slow down. We need to stop this competitive mindset. Nature works cooperatively and it has been happy for millions to billions of years. We need to stop the call for unlimited growth. It's not just humans that are suffering. The environment is being destroyed in the name of it.
This breaks my heart because it is so true.. and the irony is that the end result is creating less productive adults. By the time these kids hit eight grade they are already over it. Well written!
I love love love this. Being in some schools (not all) these days feels like this, and increasingly so if the schools are run by academy trusts where decision makers spend almost no time with the children and look only at data to guide their progress. I’m not religious, and have often bemoaned the way religion has slowed scientific discovery and shaped opinions in the world, but I actually think we need to spend more time now on spirituality and being human beings in school, not just building CVs from the age of 4.

Wow that sounds dystopian, but it's actually happening right now. Really well-written, I love it!
My heart breaks reading this because it’s actually happening!

Thank you for writing this... very impactful and very necessary 👏
My parents, especially my father, were like that. Things didn't turn out well for my brother and me.
Brilliant and so accurate. I'm very relieved that my daughter is in a specialist provision now
